STS Aviation Group Poised for Continued Expansion

Is it me, or did 2014 fly by? It seems like only yesterday that we were setting goals for 2013, and yet here we stand, nearly one year later, coming off one of the most successful and exciting periods of growth in our company’s history.

Today, in the pre-dawn hours of 2015, the U.S. economy is growing stronger, the aviation industry continues to solidify its economic viability and STS Aviation Group’s potential for another record-setting year is abundant. But before I get too far ahead of myself, let me take a few moments to circle back and highlight some of the major successes our company experienced in 2014. After all, in order to understand where you’re going, you must first recognize and acknowledge where you’ve been.

While 2014 wasn’t without its challenges, STS had far more successes to celebrate, and some of the major milestones we achieved this past year are listed below.

  1. STS started its Ground Power Turbine Component business and established a new office in Sunrise, Florida. (Official PR)
  2. Several, very large RFP opportunities were awarded to STS AeroStaff Services, STS Engineering Solutions and STS Technical Services.
  3. STS Engineering Solutions also increased it’s headcount of active field engineers by 63 percent and nearly doubled the size of its corporate recruiting department.
  4. STS acquired Air-Pro Hose, a subsidiary of AMG, which is an Air France / KLM company located in Medley, Florida. (Official PR)
  5. STS Line Maintenance was awarded a multi-year, WiFi installation project.
  6. STS Component Solutions made a major entry into the B787 marketplace after forming a strategic partnership with Korry Electronics, a division of Esterline Technologies. (Official PR)
  7. We opened a new Line Maintenance Station in Trenton, New Jersey.
  8. STS Engineering Solutions successfully began servicing multiple Latin American airlines and MROs.
  9. STS Component Solutions purchased three PW 4000 engines for tear down and / or resale. (Official PR)
  10. STS Aviation Group was recognized, for the fourth year in a row, as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the United States. (Official PR)

It would take at least few hundred words to highlight every milestone STS reached in 2014, but nevertheless, we had an awesome year and remain both excited and confident about what lies ahead.

With a strong economy and increased opportunities for continued growth on the horizon, I have no doubt that STS is poised for another record-setting year. I would even venture to say that the aviation industry, as a whole, is thriving more now than I have seen in my 20-year career, and that’s spells big things for us all. I hope you agree!

Another Record-Breaking Year Leaves STS AeroStaff Services Primed for 2015

Over the past twelve months, STS AeroStaff Services experienced an 11 percent growth in our annual headcount; an accomplishment that is made even more impressive by the fact that 2013 was the year we broke every company record for recruiting.

The STSAS team also doubled the size of its department in 2014, and that led to better fill ratios and increased market shares within existing customer accounts.  This past year, we even opened a West Coast base of operations in Denver, signed multiple new clients and successfully filled more orders than we’ve ever filled before.  We also reached preferred vendor status with two industry powerhouses; a fact that will no doubt catapult us even further down the path of success in 2015.

Every New Year brings new opportunity, and we are excited about what the future holds in store.  Not only are we gearing up for multiple major projects, the recent opening of our West Coast office now allows us to offer national recruitment coverage from 5 a.m. through 9 p.m., EST. This extended coverage will afford us the opportunity to better serve both clients and job seekers around the country, and given that two of STS’ best will be spearheading the West Coast branch, I have all the confidence in the world that this new coverage will pay off in a really big way.

The next 12 months are going to require STS AeroStaff Services to be on top of its game. The coming year will no doubt prove challenging, but I am confident that we will continue to push ourselves, innovate and find new and exciting ways to better support client and employee needs.

Armed with an amazing team and coming off an incredible year, there’s no doubt in my mind that we are ready for the challenges 2015 will bring, and we cannot wait to get started. Thanks for taking the time, and please email me directly if you have any questions.

A Look Back at the Successes of 2014 While Offering a Glimpse of What Lies Ahead in 2015

As we look back and reflect upon 2014, STS Component Solutions once again can recognize and be proud of the various milestones that we have achieved. These milestones, which we continually achieve year after year, are a direct result of our forward-looking strategy and the ability to capitalize on the pipeline of opportunities that we encounter.

When you look at each of these milestones, there are recurring themes. These themes are driven by global expansion, product diversification and value-driven solutions.

In 2014, we once again touched on each of these core strategies as STS Component Solutions recorded record revenue levels in all of our business units, launched a new business segment and acquired a proven brand name entity recognized for OEM Distribution and manufacturing.

In the 1st quarter of 2014, we further expanded our business focus in Eastern Europe and Russia by establishing a strategic inventory location in Estonia with our partner Magnetic MRO (formerly known as Air Maintenance Estonia). This inventory represented our second inventory location in Europe to support our European, Middle Eastern and African customers.

Additionally in the 1st quarter, we closed on two PW 4056 engines as a means to expand our engine product offering and portfolio. This further solidified STSCS as a key player in the engine and aircraft acquisition market.

In the 2nd quarter of 2014, we worked with one of our primary OEM Business Partners and developed a support and service platform focused on providing B787 Operators with AOG & Warranty Administration support in three global locations. STSCS established global stocking locations in U.S., Europe & Asia to support B787 Operators on Flight Deck Control Panels. This not only launched STSCS into the B787 market but enabled us to establish a foundation to build upon worldwide to support B787 OEM’s and airline operators.

In the 3rd quarter of 2014, we established a new global location in Turkey, which is an emerging market for aviation. Furthermore, we launched a new business segment for our Powerplant Team by introducing our Ground Power Business opening an office in South Florida for our Powerplant Team. These two milestones provided us with a larger footprint in our European business and a synergistic opportunity to expand on our success in the Powerplant industry by diversifying into the Aeroderivative markets. We were very fortunate to assemble a team of proven industry professionals with a strong and successful background in each of these business segments.

As most companies may have been winding down their businesses activities in the 4th quarter of 2014, STSCS found itself extremely busy working on new opportunities that it had identified throughout the year. During this quarter, we closed on four different airline inventory consignment programs, established two VMI programs with airlines, closed on a large inventory package of over 20,000 line items with a major airline moreover closed on the acquisition of the Air-Pro Hose business. We were also very proud to receive “Distributor of the Year Award” from Esterline Korry for 2014.

For many companies, the milestones achieved in Q4 would make a great year, but for STSCS, it was ending 2014 with a sprint to the finish line and establishing an excellent foundation to build upon for 2015 as we integrate these projects and acquisition into our business model.

So as I reflect on 2014, we can be proud of all of the milestones achieved and stated herein. However, there are so many other storylines that are not captured, but should be recognized. STSCS not only recorded record revenue numbers in excess of $75M but also expanded all of our business segments including our OEM Business Segment that recorded record growth and expansion and is now widely recognized as being a “Hybrid” OEM Business Partner that has provided a proven track record of growth and value-driven solutions.

So the stage is now set for 2015 as we carry the momentum of not only the 4th Quarter of 2014, but all of the milestones and story lines that we here at STSCS make happen every day! Stay tuned and do not miss a beat as no moss grows under our feet here at STSCS!

STS Line Maintenance Gears Up for the New Year

STS Line Maintenance is coming off an incredible year. All twelve of our Line Stations increased their workload, our company completed numerous WiFi installations across a fleet of commercial aircraft and we also saw tremendous results while working on a prototype retrofit for multiple KC10s. Yet despite these successes, all signs point to an even bigger year for STSLM in 2015. Before we look forward, however, let’s take a step back and review – in detail – some of the major milestones we achieved this past year.

STS Line Maintenance’s crown jewel of 2014 had to be the successful completion of WiFi installations for major aircraft carriers throughout the United States. To date, the STSLM team has completed 25 installations on commercial aircraft in SEA, we are in the middle of 60 installs in LAX and we will soon start 40 installs in CMH. We have already begun working on 118 installs in COS and, in 2015, we’ve been pegged to do 70 installs in DFW, another 30 in a city yet to be determined and possibly an additional 181 in ATL.

Needless to say, this massive amount of work requires a very high level of logistics, training, quality control and material support coordination. This has taken our DOM, Brandon Monk, as well as our VP, Terry Carr, and stretched them to their operational limits. The handling of the workload increase by STSLM’s management team has been seamless, but we knew that we needed to bring in an additional executive team member to help keep us organized and focused in the coming year.

At the end of 2014, STSLM hired Robby Bush as Vice President and General Manager of STS Line Maintenance. Robby brings 25 years of experience from Delta Airlines, and we would like to take this moment to formally welcome him to the team.

In addition to hiring of Mr. Bush and the numerous successes we experienced installing WiFi systems, STSLM excelled in 2014 during a prototype retrofit on a fleet of KC10s while working for a large aircraft manufacturer and the U.S. Air Force. The “Super Tug” project – as it has been dubbed internally – began in DEN in October and continues to operate very smoothly.

STSLM also completed a GTO prototype in MOB last September (GTO stands for Ground To Orbit; a satellite antenna installation), and we couldn’t be more excited about the results.

As we look forward to 2015, it’s easy to see that STSLM will be extremely busy with WiFi projects and the simultaneous installs that accompany them. We also plan to open more Line Stations this year and hope to greatly expand the type of aircraft services we perform at all of our established stations.

The success we experienced in 2014 is no doubt attributed to the hard work and dedication of our employees and business partners. As we enter 2015, me and the rest of the STSLM crew have high hopes for the New Year, and we look forward to seeing how it all pans out.

STS Engineering Solutions Provides True 24/7 Support

This past year was another demanding and successful one for STS Engineering Solutions (STSES). Unlike the majority of engineering companies operating within the aviation industry, STSES provides 24/7 liaison engineering support focused on cost-effectively expediting aircraft back to revenue service.

To date, STSES supports approximately 85 percent of all U.S. regional carriers and 70 percent of the legacy operators with engineering and DER support that covers structures, electrical / avionics systems, power plant, composites, interiors and DTA (Damage Tolerance Analysis).

As a valued STSES customer, we start by assisting an operator with further development / enhancement of their major / minor logic chart and PMI approved operator procedural manuals.  This clearly defines a “major repair” in line with FAR 43 Appendix A, in lieu of the current definition provided in FAR 1.1 utilizing the ill-defined phrase “appreciable damage.” Our procedural changes are further reinforced by AC120-77 in which I was a contributing member / author of the publication.

Equally important to the determination of a “major repair” is the evaluation of DTA in accordance with AC120-93 and FAR 121.1109.  Specifically, DTA is required if a repair has been accomplished to FCBS (Fatigue Critical Baseline Structure). This comprehensive list is found within the SRM (Structural Repair Manual) as an OEM requirement per FAR Part 26. Based on an FAA requirement to be accomplished within 12 months of obtaining 8110-3 static approval, STSES works with each operator to accomplish DTA (initial threshold and subsequent repetitive cycles) inspection intervals within their requested time frame.

2015 already looks like it’s shaping up to be very busy, and successful, for STSES.  Along with 24/7 liaison engineering support, STSES accomplishes large engineering projects / STCs for domestic and international customers.  Our design team is versed in fixed-wing and rotorcraft aircraft, and we ask that you please keep us in mind for all of your engineering needs.

STS Component Solutions Acquires Air-Pro Hose, a Subsidiary of Aero Maintenance Group

Palm City, Jan. 08, 2015 – STS Component Solutions, a division of STS Aviation Group, is pleased to announce that it has acquired the assets and business relationships of Air-Pro Hose, formally of Aero Maintenence Group, which is an Air France/KLM company company located in Medley, Florida. The newly acquired business is legally named STS Distribution Solutions Inc. and will be operating as STS Air-Pro.

Air-Pro is a leading distributor for Titeflex Aerospace and is globally recognized as a frontrunner in the manufacturing and distribution of flexible, rigid and flex-rigid hose assemblies with aircraft, turbine engine and space applications.

“Air-Pro is a widely recognized global leader in the distribution and manufacture of high quality aerospace hoses. This acquisition provides us an excellent opportunity to further strengthen our current OEM Distribution Product offering while adding manufacturing capability,” states Tom Covella, Group President of STS Component Solutions. “The Air-Pro name has been a well-known brand for more than 40 years and it is linked to high-end, upper-echelon hose distribution and production.  I am excited to integrate and incorporate the STS business model into the organization and take this business to new heights.”

All key members of Air-Pro Hoses’ current sales and production team will remain in place and will now be led by Luis Garcia, Site Director for STS Distribution Solutions.

The Air-Pro production facility will stay at its current location in Medley, Florida, while the administration and back-office support for STS Air-Pro will be located in Palm City, Florida.

The acquisition of the Air-Pro Hose business is consistent with STS Component Solutions’ strategic direction toward expanding its portfolio of niche-based products and services within the aviation and aeroderivative markets.

What does your job entail?

My role as Business Development Manager calls upon me to identify, qualify and secure new customers for our Engineering and AeroStaff divisions.

What do you like best about working for STS?

I love aviation, and I love to sell  products / services I wholeheartedly believe in. STS allows me to combine those two loves while wearing khaki shorts and flip-flops from the comfort of a gorgeous water-front office.

In your opinion, what’s the best aviation-related movie of all time?

Believe it or not, Snakes on a Plane. I love that movie.

What is your most memorable moment as an STS employee?

Meeting Medal of Honor recipient, Lt. Col. Bruce Crandall, at AAAA, which is an Army aviation trade show. His story is best told in the movie, We Were Soldiers. He was a medevac pilot who flew numerous evacuations while taking heavy fire and showing total disregard for his own personal safety.

Born and raised in Florida, Jessica is 24-years old and loves to travel. When she isn’t busy with work, she enjoys spending her time outdoors playing sports, scuba diving and camping with friends and family.

Jessica currently works for STS AeroStaff Services as an Aviation Data Specialist, and what she loves most about her jobs is, “The people I interact with and the office environment are incredible. I also love the fact that STS gives its employees the opportunity to grow with the company, and I couldn’t be any more excited to see what the future holds in store.”

Leah was born and raised in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, and currently has a B.A.S. degree in Organizational Management.

When she is not at work, Leah mostly enjoys reading, watching movies and spending time with her family, friends and dogs (AKA, fur-children).

Leah currently works as an Aviation Data Specialist for STS AeroStaff Services, and what she loves about the company is how team oriented it is and how everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand. Leah looks forward to growing with STS while continuing to help build the corporate brand.

As a Technical Recruiter, Mark’s responsibility is to review job descriptions in order to understand the needs of STS’ customers and ask questions that’ll help identify the right candidate(s). Mark must also understand the technical roles / skills pertaining to aircraft engineering, and once he has a thorough grasp of the position he is set to fill, he’ll work to identify qualified candidates through sourcing and advertising. Mark also works closely with customers and job seekers throughout the resume submission and interview processes to make sure nothing falls through the cracks.

Born and raised in the Greater Boston, Massachusetts, area, Mark is an admitted Boston sports fanatic; a fact many of us will have to forgive him for.

He attended Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, and received a B.S. degree in Environmental Studies. Mark started his career in Technical Recruiting with a IT consulting firm in Boston and found his way back to South Florida when looking to develop his career with STS Engineering Solutions.

Mark’s true passion is the outdoors where he enjoys hunting, fishing, boating and just about anything and everything under the sun, Mark has a longtime girlfriend named Kristen (who just so happens to love the Buffalo Bills) and a rescued Australian Shepherd named Jack. He also enjoys playing ice hockey and golf, building, drawing and fine art.

When asked to describe his experience working for STS so far, he said, “It has been amazing. I couldn’t be happier with how accepting everyone is here an how willing people are to help. I truly enjoy the fact that every day is unique and different and how I’m constantly challenged to learn, develop and contribute. We have a great team, and I’m so happy to be a part of it right now.”


NikoleNikole Hendrix — Aviation Data Specialist at STS AeroStaff Services

Nikole was born and raised in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and she is planning to go back to school to get her degree in accounting.

When Nikole isn’t at work, she likes to spend time with her one-year-old son, read books and occasionally partake in a swing dance or two.

Nikole’s current position finds her working as an Aviation Data Specialist for STS AeroStaff Services, and when she was asked about her experience working for the company, she said, “STS has been the best company I’ve ever worked for. I love the people and the camaraderie. I feel so welcome here, and it’s a pleasure working for such a great organization.”



Lydia Driggers — Aviation Data Specialist for STS Engineering Solutions

Lydia grew up in Honolulu, got married to the military and moved all throughout the southern United States; a fact that has allowed her to regularly try new things and meet all kinds of interesting people.

Lydia loves to read in her downtime, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t seek out the occasional adventure.

As an Aviation Data Specialists for STS Engineering Solutions, Lydia is always willing to step up and take on more than what’s required in an effort to assist her fellow colleagues and propel the division forward.

When asked to describe her experience working for STS, Lydia said, “It’s been another new and exciting experience that has exceeded my expectations. STS has also allowed me to plant some life roots and grow in a different direction. The people I work with are both interesting and entertaining, and I must admit, it’s the team around me that makes working at STS such a pleasure.”


ryanRyan McComas — Account Representative for STS Component Solutions

Ryan was born and raised in Palm City, Florida. He went to college in Orlando and graduated from UCF in 2010.

In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, hunting and playing hockey, basketball and football.

Believe it or not, this is actually Ryan’s second time working for STS (we had him a few years ago), and he is now one of STS Component Solutions’ global business development leaders.

When asked what he likes best about working for the company, Ryan said, “I like the atmosphere at STS, and I really enjoy being around my coworkers.”

Dominique is a half Dutch, half American who was raised bi-lingual. She lived in Florida until she was 6 before moving to the Netherlands for the next 16 years of her life. When she was 22, Dominique moved back to the states and currently resides in Port St. Lucie.

In her free time, Ms. Flynn loves to travel, go to music festivals, hang out with friends, read books and watch good movies.

Dominique said moving from the Netherlands to U.S. was a big change, and that  “STS helped me adjust and taught me how to communicate more effectively. During my time with the company, I have learned so much. I’m currently an Aviation Data Specialist who is very proud to work for an organization that truly cares about, and are actively involved with, all of their employees.”

Danielle (Dani) was born and raised in sunny Stuart, Florida, and she went to school to be a pastor. Dani graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Practical Theology and joined STS shortly after getting married in April, 2014.

Dani works in the payroll department ensuring our contract hires get paid each week while also managing a wide variety of miscellaneous tasks like wage advances, verification of employment, etc…

When she is not busy at work, Dani likes to do just about anything for fun, but the things she really loves are snuggling with her teddy bear of a puppy (so cute) and spending time outdoors.

When asked to describe what it’s like working for STS, Dani said, “I’ve really been taken aback by the incredible amount of love in this place, which is my favorite thing about STS. One minute you’re the new person and the next it’s like you’ve known everyone for years. I’m very content and blessed to be working for such an outstanding organization, and I look forward to growing with the company and watching STS really take off in 2015.”

Lori is originally from Illinois (not Chicago) and moved to Florida about 8 or 9 years ago (we can’t remember). The reason for the move? She was tired of the cold weather, and who could blame her?

When she isn’t hard at work in the HR department, Lori enjoys spending time with family and going to the beach… “The beach is my happy place,” she said.

When asked to share a few words about her experience working at STS, Lori enthusiastically delivered the following, “I love working for the company, and the people I work with are awesome!”


Jenn Piotroski PicJennifer Piotroski — Recruiter for STS AeroStaff Services

Jenn was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey. She moved to Florida 10 years ago and accidentally, but happily, fell into recruiting.

Jenn is an amateur weather enthusiast and is even a NWS Certified Weather Spotter (no kidding). She also loves explaining how a Jersey Girl became a die-hard fan of both NASCAR and the San Francisco 49ers, and explanation we’ve all heard but still have a hard time comprehending.

When asked to summarize her experience working for STS, Jenn said, “The support offered at all levels of the company is increasingly rare in today’s employer landscape. This is an organization that is doing everything right, and I am thrilled to have landed here!”


FowlerJohnathan Fowler — Warehouse assistant at STS Component Solutions

Johnathan was born in Hollywood, Florida, and he was raised in New Berlin, Wisconsin.

He enjoys going to the beach, working out and taking in a good movie from time to time. “I love to laugh, and comedy is my favorite genre of entertainment,” said Johnathan.

“I currently handle shipping for STS Component Solutions, and I look forward to gaining more knowledge of STSCS’ warehouse operations and the aviation industry as a whole. I really like the energy at STS, and I truly feel like I’m apart of the team… the family. I look forward to growing with the company in the years to come.”


Christmas dinner 2014David Miller — Technical Recruiter at STS Technical Services

David Miller is an all-star Recruiter at STS Technical Services. He works out of  our office in Brookfield, Wisconsin, where he has been freezing his tail off for the past several weeks (thanks Polar Vortex).

David graduated from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. Prior to going to college, David was active duty in the United States Army where he served in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

David has a recruiting background that was formed while working as an Associate Recruiter at ManpowerGroup for 11 months prior to joining STSTS. When asked to give us a brief synopsis of what it has been like working for us, David said, “Working at STS Technical Services has been a breath of fresh air. I really enjoy my role as a full-cycle recruiter, and I also enjoy tackling special projects on an as needed basis.”


Bruce BluntBruce Blunt — Project Engineer, FEA Analyst at STS Technical Services

Bruce is a Project Engineer for STS Technical Services in Brookfield, Wisconsin.

He has a M.S. degree in Engineering Mechanics and is the department’s lead FEA analyst.

Bruce brings 10+ years experience spanning a number of fields that include industrial machinery, automated machinery and consumer products.


ConnChristopher Conn — Technical Recruiter at STS Engineering Solutions

Christopher Conn was born and raised in Fort Pierce, Florida. He loves to sail, ride motorcycles, hunt boar with his bare hands (which is kind of crazy if you ask us) and relax with friends and family.

Chris is currently finishing his MBA in International Business at FAU, and back in August of 2014, he joined the STS family as a Technical Recruiter for the Engineering Division.

Aviation is a very large part of Christopher’s life and joining STS has breathed fun in to a career that’s just starting to really take off!
