STS Engine Services Achieves Green Business Certification
Building a Greener Future for Engine Maintenance
STS Engine Services is proud to have achieved Green Business certification, recognising our commitment to understanding our environmental impact and, more importantly, taking practical steps to reduce it.
As an engine maintenance business, we know that operating more sustainably isn’t about one initiative or one certification. It’s about continually looking at how we work, where improvements can be made and investing in better ways of doing things.
Our Green Business certification recognises both our commitment to improving the management of our significant environmental impacts and the practical action plan we have in place to deliver against that commitment.
Turning Commitment into Action
As our business continues to grow, we’re working to make sure our environmental responsibility grows with it.
Across our Stansted facility, we have introduced a number of changes designed to improve efficiency, reduce waste and lower the environmental impact of our day-to-day operations.
Our solar installation now provides a significant proportion of our electricity requirements, while LED lighting, improved insulation and energy-efficient systems are helping us reduce consumption throughout our facilities.
We’ve also introduced EV and plug-in hybrid charging points, alongside initiatives such as our cycle-to-work scheme and car sharing, giving our team more options to make lower-impact journeys.
Rethinking How We Work
Some of the most meaningful improvements come from looking at the processes we use every day.
One example is our dedicated engine Preservation Bay. Traditionally, engine rotation during preservation can rely on equipment powered by Jet A1 fuel. Our facility uses compressed air supported by solar-generated electricity instead, alongside filtration technology designed to capture oil vapour during the process.
It’s an example of how we’re looking beyond the obvious changes and considering how sustainability can be built directly into our engine maintenance operations.
Small Changes Make a Difference Too
Not every environmental improvement needs to be a major infrastructure project.
From reducing paper use and improving recycling to responsible waste management and recycling schemes for items such as printer cartridges and coffee pods, we’re encouraging better environmental choices throughout the business.
Individually, these changes may seem small. Together, they form part of a much bigger effort to operate more responsibly.
Continuing to Improve
Becoming Green Business Certified is something we’re proud of, but we don’t see certification as the end goal.
As STS Engine Services continues to expand its facilities and capabilities, we will continue looking for practical opportunities to reduce our environmental impact, improve efficiency and make sustainability part of the way we grow.
Because building a stronger business and building a more responsible one should go hand in hand.
