STS Aviation Services Gears Up to Open Manchester Base Maintenance Facility in November

STS Aviation Services Signs Three-Year Agreement With Leading Part 147 Training Provider CATTS (1)

BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom, October 18, 2022 — STS Aviation Services (STS), a division of STS Aviation Group and a leading aircraft maintenance provider to the global aviation industry, is pleased to announce that it has formerly executed a long-term lease agreement, received full CAA closure to the part 145 audit findings and will begin MRO operations at its aircraft base maintenance facility in Manchester the first week of November, 2022.

“It was more than one year ago when STS first engaged with the relevant stakeholders for the facility. At that time, we set a go-live target for the first week of November, and we are now at that point,” states Ian Radford, VP of Technology for STS Aviation Services. “I am extremely proud to have led this project. Seeing all the hard work come to fruition has been amazing experience. It is known how quickly a hangar facility and all the systems can deteriorate when not in use for several years, and STS has worked incredibly hard to bring the facility back to life. This has been achieved with great partners, fully engaged stakeholders, our wonderful staff and some remarkable equipment, systems and tools. We have built a solid base for MRO in Manchester with space to grow. In addition to reaching our go-live target date, STS Aviation Services also received audit closure for its first C rating. Here we will build back-shop capabilities to go along with our sizeable engine shop and its B rating.”

“The business has worked tirelessly over the past three months to onboard approximately 70 newly-employed engineers, mechanics and other support personnel in Manchester,” states Eddie Boyce, Head of Base Maintenance in Manchester for STS Aviation Services. “In addition to assembling a dynamic workforce, we have made a significant investment in aircraft access equipment as well as tooling and test equipment. This will allow the STS team to use a fully automated tooling control system; the best in its class. The camaraderie in and amongst my team is fantastic. They are rolling their sleeves up to help us get ready for go-live in November all while painting floors and showing us every day how they want to personally own the operation. This bodes well for the future and will permeate into our team’s aircraft service delivery. I am extremely delighted to have joined STS and to be part of this incredible project.”

Mammoth Freighters Signs Agreement with STS Aviation Services to Perform 777 Conversions and Maintenance

LIFT MORE FLY FARTHER LEAVE NOTHING BEHIND

Orlando, Florida – October 17, 2022 – Mammoth Freighters LLC (“Mammoth”) is pleased to announce that the company signed a General Terms Agreement with STS Aviation Services (STS) to perform passenger-to-freighter conversions for the Mammoth 777 program. All work will be accomplished at STS’ facility in Manchester, UK, and the multi-year agreement covers both the 777-200LR and 777-300ER aircraft.

“Ensuring that we have the right modification capacity in place around the world to meet the robust demand for the Mammoth 777 freighter program is vital to our success,” stated Mammoth’s Senior Vice President of Operations, David Steinmetz. “STS has the experience, knowledge, capability and, most importantly, the high-quality reputation that we look for in an MRO partner. We are excited to have STS on our team and look forward to a productive, long-term relationship.”

The STS facility will also provide Mammoth with AOG, product support, and spares provisioning throughout Europe. STS acquired the Manchester facility earlier this year as part of their expansion efforts, and this constitutes their third facility in the UK. Mammoth will begin inducting 777 aircraft for modification at the facility in mid-2024.

Ian Bartholomew, Managing Director for STS Aviation Services, said “This P2F program assures stability in Manchester from day one and means we can forge ahead, investing in entry-level engineers and trainee schemes giving them development opportunities in the area of major programs and real-life aircraft engineering – when at the same time as taking capacity at Manchester to around 80% within two years of go live.”

Mick Adams, Chief Executive Officer of STS Aviation Services in Europe, said “From the first meeting with the Mammoth team, I could see we had the right DNA and have no doubt this will develop into a long and fruitful relationship. We are so aligned in our approach and the need for transparency in business, you would have thought we had worked together for years. In STS being awarded this contract it exemplifies our reputation, not just for MRO but for our executing highly complex and major structural projects such as continues to be the case on the Boeing Wedgetail program.”

About Mammoth Freighters LLC:

Mammoth Freighters LLC (Mammoth) was founded in December of 2020 by two top cargo conversion program executives – Bill Wagner and Bill Tarpley – specifically to design, develop, convert, and support the development of passenger to freighter conversions.  The launch type is the Boeing 777 (both the 200 LR and 300 ER variants).  The Mammoth converted 777 is one of the most productive and economical 777 long range freighters in the world.

Mammoth, a Boeing Licensee for the Boeing 777, is developing a global production and conversion site network which will include the Aspire MRO facility as well as additional conversion capacity planned at two other sites around the world.

Mammoth is backed by private investment funds managed by Fortress Investment Group LLC and its affiliates. Mammoth is based in Orlando, Florida with engineering offices in Escondido, California and Seattle, Washington.

STS Aviation Services Launches its Newly-Formed Apprenticeship Scheme in the United Kingdom

STS Aviation Services Launches its Newly-Formed Apprenticeship Scheme in the United Kingdom
In order from left to right: Phil Prosser, Imogen Day, Brooke Foxall, Romiah Isaac, Joe James, Karam Mattu, Maclom Welsby, Mick Adams

BIRMINGHAM, September 16, 2022 — STS Aviation Services (STS), a division of STS Aviation Group and a leading aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul provider to the global aviation industry, is pleased to announce the launch of its newly formed Apprenticeship Scheme. The scheme will last for 4 years and culminates in Engineers qualifying for their engineer licenses.

Working alongside highly-skilled engineers within STS Aviation Services, the trainees have a fantastic opportunity to learn best practices on both legacy and next-generation aircraft.

Imogen Day, STS Aviation Services’ VP of Human Resources says, “When looking for a college to support our flagship scheme, there was no greater place that Solihull College who are well versed in aviation apprenticeships schemes. The scheme is four years in duration, with a mix of college attendance and working within the many areas of STS to include maintenance, design, logistics, planning, safety & compliance. From the many applicants we’ve seen, we have selected 5 trainees to start this year – each to be mentored and coached along the way by our skilled Engineers who are equally enthused by this scheme and wanting to help.”

“I cannot tell you how delighted I am that STS is now introducing this scheme, one of very few that exist in UK aviation,” states Mick Adams, STS Aviation Services’ CEO in the United Kingdom. Our company is determined to build for the long term, and bringing these trainees into such an exciting industry presents wonderful opportunities for them to grow their careers and advance. In today’s aviation market, there is a severe lack of aerospace engineers, and we have to do what needs to be done to address this. I had the pleasure of meeting all of the apprentices yesterday, and I took the opportunity to provide some colour as to the future opportunities. When doing so, I could sense the excitement and passion they have to learn. STS Aviation Services will encourage this further by exposing them to all facets of MRO in both the commercial and military sectors.”
